How to get cash back on flights

The first thing you need to do is sign up for Expedia and their new rewards program, One Key. One Key earns you rewards across Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo. Then sign up for an account with RetailMeNot. Then, search for Expedia on RetailMeNot and select the 4% Cash Back On Flights And Hotels option. This will activate the deal and take you to Expedia to book your flight. Then enjoy up to $50 cash back for each booking!

Who should use this?

Everyone! For the regular consumer, this is a way to get a little kickback on your flights, as well as One Key rewards points. You could even book flights for your friends under your own account and get cash back and points.

For travel agents, it’s nice to have this option, however temporary. We’ve all experienced well-meaning family and friends who want to support our business by booking their flights with us. They have no idea that airlines don’t pay us anything.

As far as suppliers go, I’ve discovered that this DOES work with Expedia TAAP.

Here is the notificaton on my RetailMeNot account showing my pending cash back for a flight I booked.

A note about travel insurance

There have been a lot of crazy and unexpected weather events and natural disasters happening lately. I strongly urge everyone to purchase travel insurance for every trip. While it may seem like an unnecessary extra expense, consider this. What if you had booked a hotel room, or even a destination wedding, in Lahaina during the time the wildfire happened? Or a trip to Disneyland the day that Hurricane Hilary AND an earthquake hit southern California? You might feel differently.

I know this blog is about how to get cash back on flights, but you can get the whole thing refunded, even non-refundable fares, if you purchase travel insurance. Expedia didn’t allow me to purchase travel insurance at the same time as the flight I booked, so I recommend you do so separately. If you’d like to support my small business, you can check out TinLeg insurance.
